How RPA works, and what we ask of you
- RPA is a 100% free tool to record the condition of a rental car and send that record to the rental company.
- The report is a document you produce. We take no part in your rental or in any dispute with the rental company.
- You must be 18, film your own rental, and give a correct email address for the rental company.
This is a plain summary. The full text below is what applies.

01What RPA is
RPA (RentalProof App) is a web app that helps you document the condition of a rental car when you pick it up: a walkaround video, photos, the time recorded by our server, the location read by your phone, and a copy sent to the rental company before you drive off.
The result is a condition report. It is a faithful record of what you filmed and photographed, with the time and place of capture. It is not an expert appraisal, not legal advice, and not a guarantee that the rental company will accept it.
Each report is then sealed: a digital fingerprint of your files is written into the Bitcoin blockchain through the open OpenTimestamps protocol. That makes it possible to verify the files haven’t changed since. The files themselves never leave RPA.
02A free service
RPA is 100% free: no subscription, no paid plan, no card. You can do as many condition checks as you like.
We may change the service, add or remove features, or stop it. If we ever stop it, we will tell you in advance by email so you can retrieve your reports.
03Your account
You can film without an account. An account is needed to save and send the report: it is created with your email address, verified by a one-time code.
- You must be at least 18, the age required to rent a car.
- The email address must be yours and stay reachable: that is where you receive your copy of the report and your sign-in code.
- The phone number asked at sign-up is not verified and we don’t use it to contact you unless you ask.
04What you agree to
- Film the car you are renting yourself, at pickup, without staging or editing.
- Avoid filming people, or ask for their consent. The report is about the car, not the people around it.
- Choose and check the rental company’s email address. We suggest one when we know it, but you confirm it before sending.
- Follow the rules of the place where you film (car park, rental desk).
- Never use RPA to mislead anyone, or to harass a rental company or its staff.
05The report and how it is sent
When you tap “Send”, the report goes by email to the rental company and to you. A sent email cannot be recalled, so check the company’s address and the content before sending.
The report is reachable through a long link that cannot be guessed. Anyone you give this link to can view it, without an account. Treat it like a document: share it only with the people concerned.
You can delete a report at any time from the app. Deleting removes the photos, the video and the report page. It does not remove emails the rental company has already received.
06What RPA doesn’t do, and our responsibility
RPA is a recording tool. We are not a party to your rental contract. Whatever happens between you and the rental company (charges, disputes, excess, insurance) is between you, the company and, where relevant, your insurer.
- We don’t guarantee that a rental company, an insurer or a court will accept the report as evidence. The report is something you present; its weight depends on each situation.
- We don’t give legal advice.
- The app depends on your phone (camera, GPS, network). If location is unavailable or a send fails, the app tells you. Check that your copy has arrived before you leave the rental desk.
- The rental company’s address is confirmed by you. We are not responsible for a report sent to a wrong address.
- Plate reading, voice transcription and damage detection are automatic aids: read them over.
The service is provided as is, free of charge. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for charges, deductions or decisions taken by a rental company or an insurer, nor for indirect losses linked to using RPA or to it being unavailable.
This limitation does not apply to gross negligence or wilful misconduct on our part, nor to the rights that the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence gives you.
07Your photos, videos and reports
Your photos, videos, recordings and reports belong to you. You only allow us to store, process and transmit them to produce and deliver your report. That is the whole of what we do with them.
We don’t use them for advertising and we don’t sell them. See the Privacy page for details.
08Prohibited uses
- Fabricating or altering evidence, or presenting as a condition check a recording that isn’t one.
- Using another person’s account or reports.
- Disrupting the service, scraping it, or trying to reach other users’ data.
In case of abuse, we may suspend or close an account and delete the reports concerned.
09Governing law
These terms are governed by Swiss law. If you live in the European Union, you keep the protections that the mandatory consumer law of your country gives you, including the right to bring a claim before the courts where you live.
Before any proceedings, write to us: most questions are settled in a few exchanges.
10Changes and contact
We may update these terms. The date and version number at the top change with every update; for an important change we will let you know in the app or by email.
